Happy Birthday, Bob!

Happy Happy Birthday to my "little" brother, Bob!!!

This pic of Bob & me on a pony was taken in July 1956 according to the note on the back of the photo.  That would have made Bob all of 3 months old.  I remember this guy going door to door in suburbia here...with his camera & his pony.  I love the heart adornment on the pony...but I'm sure the poor thing was tired of kids by the end of the day.  I hope he got some nice carrot treats & an apple or two for his ordeal.

Both Bob & I are quite a bit bigger these days...and neither of us could fit onto a pony!  Here's to a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Bob...with loving wishes for many more.

Happy Dyngus Day !!!??!?!?!????

OK...like me, you're probably scratching your head & wondering what Dyngus Day is.  Apparently it's a Polish holiday that always occurs the Monday after Easter.  Who knew?  Ya learn something new every day.

There is a large Polish population here in Cleveland & the surrounding burbs...growing up in Parma, we endured many Polish jokes...even though we are not Polish.  Moving back into this area has taken some adjustment for me...no more Spanish or Asian languages spoken by others standing in line...but a wealth of Eastern European ones in their place.  Not as interesting, but it's reality here.

So...apparently there are lots of festivities planned for today.  If you are in Cleveland, OH...or Buffalo, NY, or Pittsburgh, PA...to name a few places...you can jump right in & celebrate Dyngus Day in your own way.  Any holiday that involves beer seems fine to me!

Here's a link to the Cleveland festivities...which is where I snagged to Dyngus Day logo above.  Go out & support the restaurants & bars that are featured in the celebration if you can.  We aren't able to go out, but I shoulda made stuffed cabbage to celebrate...maybe next year.

BTW...I've updated my long neglected cooking blog with our Easter/Passover feast.  My first attempt at a Savory Noodle Kugel was a hit.  The link is in my sidebar or here.  I'm bad at food blogging as I always forget to take pix...I'll try to get better at that & post more recipes...but no promises.
